The Information Research (IR) group provides Information Technology and Information Management based solutions to drive value and accelerate discovery in the R&D organizations throughout Dow Chemical.

This position is aligned to the Scientific Data Analysis Expertise Center. In this position you will be a data analyst utilizing your image analysis, software engineering and statistics skills. Areas of focus will include software development, image processing algorithm and application development in R&D through the use of new and existing technologies.

As an intern in R&D you will develop applications that accelerate discovery at The Dow Chemical Company.  You will work as part of a team of programming experts who solve problems and build powerful new tools for researchers and R&D decision makers. You will collaborate with software architects, imaging experts and chemical researchers to develop software applications.

Qualifications:

·         U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.

·         Pursuing a B.S. in EE, ME or CS.

·         Excellent software development skills.

·         Experience with Image Analysis and/or Signal Processing theory.

·         Ability to translate technical specifications into working code, and solve complex problems with consideration of the end user experience.

·         Knowledge of MATLAB programming language preferable.

·         Statistics background is a preferred.

·         Experience with User Interface design is preferred.

EP Purification Clean Energy Trust Challenge winner

EP Purification captured the $100,000 Wells Fargo Grand Prize for Clean Energy Entrepreneurship at the 2014 Clean Energy Trust Challenge on April 3. 

The EnterpriseWorks-based startup is devoted to the manufacturing of novel systems for the purification of water and air, based on microplasma technology developed at and licensed from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The company is led by Sung-Jin Park and Gary Eden, both University of Illinois engineering faculty.

The Clean Energy Challenge is one of the nation’s most important clean energy business events. Finalists from the past three Challenge events have raised more than $40 million in outside investment, created 280 jobs and registered 40 patents and disclosures.

EP Purification in the Chicago Tribune Spotlight after Clean Energy Challenge Victory

EP Purification, winner of the 2014 Clean Energy Challenge Grand Prize, was the focus of an April 6 Chicago Tribune article about the competition. 

"The Champaign-based startup walked away with $100,000 at Thursday's Clean Energy Challenge in Chicago after holding up a palm-size aluminum card with the power to pump ozone into 60 gallons of water per minute to destroy bacteria."

In the days since EP Purification won the Clean Energy Challenge $100,000 grand prize, the interviews keep rolling in. In today's media coverage, the News-Gazette reports on what the EnterpriseWorks-based startup plans to do with its winnings. 

Company CEO Cy Herring said the winnings will be invested into product development.

"I am surprised that we won the challenge since there were a number of companies involved with very good ideas for clean energy," he said.

Job Description: The Graphic Design internship will be part of the Research Park staff team to support design efforts ranging from visual branding and presentation documents for clients to visual marketing materials for internal efforts. Students will have the ability to concept, design, develop, and execute multimedia marketing and image campaigns (print, environmental, web). 
 
This internship is designed to be both educational and practical, by applying theory to real-world applications in a professional setting.  At Research Park, students will have the opportunity to drive and take ownership of meaningful projects, have high impact work, own decision-making ability, as well as 
collaborate and network with high-level executives. Students should have the ability to work independently as well as with other students on group projects. 
 
Primary Responsibilities: 
Develop client brand identities including logos 
Design plans to implement company branding, in print as well as digital media
Design both digital and print materials including flyers, posters, name badges, and large banners to promote a variety of events, initiatives, and/or programs
Design and refine internal documents and presentations
Design data-driven diagrams and info-graphics
 
 
Qualifications: 
Proficiency in the Adobe creative suite (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Ability to work in presentation software such as PowerPoint and Prezy
Well-versed in many different types of design (i.e. print and digital media)
Demonstrates ability to quickly solve new design problems

Job Description: The student internship will be part of the Research Park Shared Services team and will focus on gathering, interpreting and reporting on data for startup companies in the tech incubator as well as for the Research Park team.  In addition, the Data Management Intern will research best practices for the tech incubator and Research Park operations, facilities and programs. 

This internship is designed to be both educational and practical, by applying theory to real-world applications in a professional setting.  At Research Park, students will have the opportunity to drive and take ownership of meaningful projects, have high impact work, own decision-making ability, as well as collaborate and network with high-level executives. Student should be able to work independently as well as with other students on group projects.

Primary Tasks:

·         Perform requested research in a variety of fields (business, medical, government, among others)

·         Manage internal spreadsheets and databases with current company statistics and information

·         Run queries and create reports using Microsoft Access

·         Aggregate and organize data according to the organization's needs (i.e. creating slides in PowerPoint containing charts and brief commentary)

 

Required Qualifications:

·         GSLIS or MBA student preferred
