Computer Scientist / Software Engineer

Education level: Upper classman or graduate student

Required:

Full-Stack Developers (app dev):

You dive into front-end technologies such as Node.js, React, Angular2, HTML5, CSS 3, etc.
You understand the importance of creating responsive web experiences and have done so in the past.
You are comfortable with languages such as Java, Go, Scala, and Python.
Database experience with both relational database management systems as well as nosql and you know when to use each.
You have deployed web apps or APIs to a cloud service such as AWS or OpenStack.
You get GitHub and espouse the benefits of source control.
VR-Specific Requirements:

You’ve spent time learning Unity3D, Unreal, or another 3D gaming engine.
You have experience designing games or game-like experiences.
You can speak to what has and what hasn’t worked in the VR space. This could include anything from types of experiences, to hardware, to how to keep people from getting sick while using VR.

AI/Machine Learning-Specific Requirements:

Python is your best friend.
You’ve used, or are interested in, Jupyter.
You have leveraged Machine Learning tools such as TensorFlow, Turi, and Amazon Machine Learning (AML).
You can explain how a Recurrent Neural Network works as well as talk about popular variants.
You’ve leveraged GPU processing when training a model.
You’ve taken advantage of available cloud computing resources such as those provided by AWS, Azure, IBM, etc.

Business Strategy Internship

An Information Research Student Intern will be responsible for:

  • Update tracking database with identified issues

Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint preferred but not required

Position Summary:

We are seeking a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) student to primarily support Abbott Nutrition’s R&D Global Analytical and Food Safety team on a key project to manage the Foreign Substance Surveillance Program (FSSP) for the 2018 year.  The FSSP is the annual program to coordinate the testing of around 50 finished products from global AN plants and third party manufacturers for chemical contaminants like metals and pesticides.  This involves writing the test plan, coordinating the sending of samples from global plants and TPM’s to Covance labs, and evaluating results as they come in.  This also includes leading the investigation on any unexpected results and writing the closeout report at the end of the program.  The FSSP is important as the results are used to support audits, customer/ministry health inquiries, and other internal investigations.  This person should also look for ways to improve the program and document all processes in a job aid packet to pass off to another intern or employee at Abbott.

The Student Will Be Responsible For:

  • Writing the test plan

  • Coordinating the sending of samples with AN plants and TPMs

  • Coordinating the testing of samples at Covance Labs

  • Evaluating results as they come in against Abbott Action Levels

  • Leading investigations for unexpected results

  • Writing the closeout report

  • Communicating findings and progress to applicable project leader on a regular basis

  • Documenting the processes in job aids to pass off to another intern or new hire

Position Summary:

The Student Will Be Responsible For:

  • Updating an existing Excel product specification database from legacy Abbott systems

  • Updating auxiliary information in the database such as product density and energy values

  • Implementing new features to improve usability and searchability of the database – possibly porting it into Access

  • Communicating findings and progress to applicable project leader on a regular basis

  • Training a student replacement as needed such that the project continues from year to year, and the database is updated until management indicates this is not needed any more.

      The Manager of Research Park Operations has the primary responsibility to source and recruit interns from the UIUC campus, to participate in career fair and hackathon UIUC events, with the primary intent to support software engineering and knowledge teams.  Manages administration of the intern program at IMO. 

      Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Research Park office, primarily consisting of the work of Interns.  Is the liaison between IMO and those at UIUC who have relationships with IMO benefiting research and development efforts.  Coordinates events and activities at the Research Park Office.

      Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

      • Intern Program - Recruitment and Management of Interns
      • Has the primary responsibility for sourcing, identifying and staffing all Intern positions that are filled by UIUC students each Summer, Fall and Spring semesters.  Maintains the pipeline of strong candidates at all times.  Communicates the existence of strong candidates for either interns or regular hires.
      • Has a key responsibility for coordinating the Intern Program at the Research Park, serving as liaison between project leads and interns, coordinating training schedules, facilitating meetings, and tracking projects and some project deliverables.
      • Coordinates Joint Program initiatives with computer and library science.  Arranges logistical issues between UIUC and the Northbrook office.
      • Manages the IMO brand on campus, through recurring career fair and hackathon events, leading to name recognition and optimum intern sourcing. 
      • Manages all events for recruitment purposes.  Coordinates all UIUC recruitment activities with IMO Corporate staff and through the proper UIUC channels.
      • Provides intern offer letters.  Conducts intern onboarding and ensures new hire paperwork is completed and sent to Corporate HR.
      • Serves as the liaison between Interns and their direct supervisor, the latter group primarily officed at the Northbrook office.
      • Supports interns as their local go-to person for administrative or work setting issues.  Notifies the Corporate HR team of any non-routine matter.
      • Reports to the Corporate HR in regards to compliance policies related to federal, state and local employment laws (EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA).  These apply to non-discrimination policies, proper classification of employees and recordkeeping.
      • Conducts exit interviews with Interns who leave prior to agreed-upon internship period and ensures meeting is documented using form from Corporate HR.
      • Supports the IMO culture of “quality, innovation, creativity, and fun where employees can develop their talents and passions.”  Plans appropriate types of social events.
      • Liaison with UIUC Faculty and Staff and Students
      • In support of IMO’s research initiatives and development projects, cultivates relationships with students, faculty and staff to build bridges between the two organizations for the purpose of developing new technologies, exploring new uses of existing products and being able to better attract UIUC students for IMO open positions.
      • Represents IMO in the most professional manner possible, given the opportunities for UIUC faculty and staff to desire partnering with IMO.
      • Continually communicates all internship and hiring opportunities to appropriate faculty and staff.
      • Coordinates and organizes events in support of recruitment or R&D efforts.
      • Stays aware of other partnership opportunities for IMO and communicates them to the appropriate IMO Management person.

      • Serves as the liaison between interns and Corporate IT.  Troubleshoots computer issues related to network, desktop and other hardware issues.

      • Prepares office for intern workstations.  Communicates intern profiles for IT set-up.
      • Serves as Office Manager for the Research Park office.  Orders and handles all supplies.  Handles all communications from and with outside parties.  Manages outside vendors for cleaning and maintenance.
      • Maintains an inventory of all equipment.
      • Has the primary responsibility for the safety of the interns.  Handles any OSHA requirement, maintains fire extinguishers and responds to any safety issue.
