4. Can write a four page, cited, MLA-formatted paper on why being Full Stack developer is infinitely better than being any other programmer. Employment will be expedited if you come up with a rap/diss track  to accompany said paper.

Summary:

Common Ground Research Networks hosts academic conferences in education, social sciences, arts/design and environmental studies. Our conferences are founded on three core principles: International: attending scholars represent a diversity of cultures and perspectives; Interdisciplinary: scholars from a wide range of disciplines who have a shared interest in the themes and concerns of each Research Network; Inclusive: whether a researcher, teacher, emeritus professor, graduate student, policymaker, practitioner, or administrator, your work and your voice can contribute to the collective body of knowledge that is created and shared by the Research Network.

Our Program Development team plays a crucial role in crafting a rich and distinctive conference experience. They review and edit conference proposals and develop the conference program by connecting content thematically in sessions involving multiple speakers. They also work with Conference team to identify and select plenary speakers, as well as suggesting plenary topics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluating and editing submitted proposals
• Assigning themes and topic areas to individual proposals to build conference program
• Identifying potential Plenary/Keynote speakers
• Communicating with presenters regarding program acceptance and revisions
• Other tasks as required by the Director, Chief Social Scientist, or Management

Requirements:

• Interest in academic events and publishing
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to focus simultaneously on short and long-term projects
• Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite; comprehensive knowledge of Excel

About the Team

Oath is looking for engineers to join the Oath Hadoop team. The team has openings in Sunnyvale CA and Champaign IL. In this role you would be working on developing the next generation Big Data stack utilizing Hadoop for Batch, Storm for real time, and Spark for Iterative. Hadoop is the de-facto operating system for the worldwide cloud computing industry. Oath/Yahoo is the birthplace of Hadoop and has the largest Hadoop install in the world. The server count has grown from a few hundred nodes, to over 30,000 in the past few years. We have over 400,000 cores that process nearly 300PB of data spread over 25 clusters running a mix of Hadoop, Storm, and Spark.

About the Role

We are looking for experienced and motivated software engineers to help build a highly scalable and robust next generation Big Data stack to power Oath's data processing needs. The qualified engineer would work on one or more of the following open source projects: Hadoop Core (Common, Mapreduce, YARN, HDFS), Pig, HCatalog, Oozie, Hive, Hbase, Storm, or Spark.

If you have strong distributed systems background, love to solve complex and challenging problems, can work independently, and want to participate in some of the most exciting open source projects, we want to hear from you!. If you want to learn about Hadoop, Storm, or Spark and get a deep understanding of cloud computing, this is the job for you.

Responsibilities:

• Help Oath design the next generation cloud
• Understand all aspects of Oath's Big Data Stack (Hadoop, Storm, Spark) and learn select components in detail
• Be a leader in open source (Apache Software Foundation) projects
• Design massively distributed technology and develop leading edge cloud computing software
• Work closely with service engineering, operations, and Hadoop users to engineer cutting-edge solutions that allow Oath to answer today's most challenging big data questions.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science (or equivalent)
• Strong in Java or C++
• Deep understanding of Algorithms, Data Structures, and Performance Optimization Techniques

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

• Develop, calibrate, validate and optimize leading-edge agronomic models and digital predictive analytic agricultural tools that deliver field-specific data and forecasts for decision-making in the field.
• Improve the reliability of crop models by incorporating data on phenomics, genomics, and crop development phases using statistical learning methodologies.
• Enhance crop model parameters by empirically integrating nutrient uptake and hydrological process models, such as tillage, irrigation effect, surface runoff, infiltration effect and soil heat flux.
• Develop algorithm of nutrient transportation models such as leaching, diffusion and crop uptake process for nitrogen and phosphorus cycling and micro nutrient, and improve nutrient model reliability by implementing effects, such as manure and synthetic fertilizer and nitrogen fixation.  
• Maximize the predictability of agronomic models with novel prototype algorithms to simulate crop growth and development using precise, robust, well-documented and tested research and library code.
• Build and optimize customer-facing applications and the core platform to create, improve, and scale agricultural models.
• Coordinate and liaise with interdisciplinary scientists to ensure various agronomic constraints that impact engineering, product, and science are addressed through the application of solid agricultural and hydrological knowledge.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Agricultural and/or Biological Engineering
• 12 months’ experience in Agricultural Engineering and Programing in Matlab, R, GMT, ArcGIS and Python
• Knowledge of statistical learning methodologies
• Proficiency with crop growth model platforms such as Cropsyst and DSSAT and with hydrological models such as SWAT and VIC
