About this Job

The Summer 2019 internship program at the State Farm Research and Development Center (RDC) provides an opportunity for 10-15 hours of paid research work per week. All majors are considered for this program. However, candidate selection will be aligned with competencies/skillsets required for project work identified.
 
The State Farm Research Center offers University of Illinois students a unique internship opportunity at its University of Illinois Research Park location. Interns will work on projects having direct application to State Farm’s research work and will include:
  • Research Company, Consumer, and Industry trends
  • Prepare written reports and PowerPoint presentations
  • Research technology and innovation as it relates to State Farm Business Opportunities
  • Department specific research initiatives such as: HR, Marketing, EIS, Public Affairs and Administrative Services.
  • Work with Corporate Project Leads
  • Present information to State Farm Management
 
Criteria
Major/Minor in undergraduate/graduate studies in Economics, Finance, Business, Engineering, Marketing, Statistics, English, Mathematics, Public Relations, Communications, Urban Planning, Psychology, the Technology & Management minor, etc. Convenient on-campus location with easy access to Campus Shuttles.
  • Sophomore or above
  • Preferred 3.0 minimum GPA overall and in major field of study
  • Demonstrated ability to gather, interpret, and summarize information from multiple sources
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • General knowledge of business practices

Chris Harbourt

Chris Harbourt has a lot of experience in the Research Park. He started out at Waterbourne and then transitioned to co-founding Agrible, which recently got acquired by Nutrien. He most recently co-founded HatchAg which helps growing AgTech companies be successful.

 

With all of his experience here he also has a lot of advice to give to those looking to start a company such as “start building a network around you remembering that relationships go two ways and kindness is always rewarded.” Harbourt has lived by this advice himself by growing a great network of colleagues in the park.

 

Harbourt also has a lot of good things to say about C-U. “Champaign is a great place to grow a startup; the Research Park staff and the EnterpriseWorks is a real gem. Project Description

Corteva Agriscience TM, Agricultural division of DowDuPontTM, has a newly developed weed resistance modeling tool that allows estimates for the onset of weed resistance (in seasons or years) as a function of common management practices such as cultivation, rate reduction, tillage, and so on.  (West et al, 2018).  We propose to expand this model into insect resistance while applying optimization algorithms to define the best combinations of management strategies that lead to maximizing the profitability over the product lifespan under parametric uncertainty while maintaining pest control.

Position Description:
The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule.

Information from protein-protein interaction networks (or pathway) plays a central role in today’s drug discovery efforts and integration of this information from multiple sources into a combined model (or network) will allow to get a more complete understanding of the possible interaction partners of a protein of interest (i.e. a potential drug target).
In close cooperation with an international team (Germany & Lake County / Illinois), you’ll be:
• Working on creating an internal database by normalizing and integrating systematically the content of most important available PPI Databases
• Implement metrics for comparing different pathways based on their characteristics / content, such as overlap, granularity, etc.
Qualifications:
• Must be registered as a full-time student
• Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
• Undergraduate and Graduate students
• Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
• 10 - 15 hours/week during the academic year

Event Coordination Internship 
 
Does the thought of planning an event excite you? Would you like to utilize your organizational and creative skills to plan out luncheons, networking socials and workshops for the Research Park? We’re looking for an organized, self-motivated student who loves event planning and managing to join our intern team. Here at EnterpriseWorks, you will be a key part in the success and joy brought to all who attend the various events hosted throughout the year.  
 
This position will begin at the start of the Fall semester at a minimum of 10 hours per week. 
 
What You’ll Do 
 
The Event Coordination Intern gets to assist in the implementation and organization of over 200 events annually including small workshops, networking socials and large-scale conferences. You’ll work alongside the Event Coordinator to brainstorm ideas, establish expectations, and create guidelines and schedules for each event. You will communicate with outside vendors to organize activities, food and/or decorations and make sure all event logistics are completed on time. Some events may require you to work outside of standard work hours (i.e. 8am – 6 pm) when you take the lead in managing the event in its entirety which includes set up and tear down. You will also maintain comprehensive event planning documentation leading up to events and compile feedback and post-event reviews. About the Position

We are looking for brilliant and talented software engineers to join our API software engineering team, responsible for all of the client-facing APIs at Amobee. Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related from a top tier school
  • Completed course work in CS fundamentals (particularly algorithms & data structures)

  • Familiar and passionate about web-based technologies
  • Understanding of HTTP request/response lifecycle
  • Education or experience with database technologies
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • Motivated by writing fast, scalable code with testability in mind

Multimedia Internship 
Do you enjoy telling stories through video and pictures? Do you get excited about being able to creatively document an event and show your work off to others? The Multimedia Intern will demonstrate their multimedia capabilities along with their teamwork and project management skills by working on meaningful, high-impact projects. This internship will allow you to fine-tune and develop your videography and photography skills in a professional environment. Interns will collaborate and coordinate with Research Park leadership and the EnterpriseWorks intern team. 
 
This position will begin at the start of the Fall semester at a minimum of 10 hours per week. 
 
What You’ll Do 
As a Multimedia Intern, you will be responsible for capturing professional quality photos and videos of in-house events, as well as editing and recapping them to promote Research Park and EnterpriseWorks. You will also be assigned projects (promotional videos/photoshoots, etc) for start-ups in the EnterpriseWorks incubator. You and a team of interns will meet with the client to discuss the project timeline and expectations. You will be responsible for determining techniques to utilize for completion of the project. A storytelling mindset would be valuable for an intern in this position to use as a frame of reference when editing footage. It is important to coordinate effectively with EnterpriseWorks staff and clients to execute all projects to their highest potential. 
 
Requirements 
  • Applicants must be available to work 10-20 per week this Fall 2018 
  • At the time of employment, you must be a full-time enrolled student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign 
  • Graduation date must be December 2019 or after 
  • Ability to maintain clear communications with management on project status 
  • Strong photography and videography skills 
  • Strong proficiency with video editing software, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, etc.) 
  • Experience using a DSLR camera and camcorder 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to quickly solve new design problems 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and balance multiple projects
