Daily Illini Highlights University of Illinois Entrepreneurship Resources

$

The University strongly encourages entrepreneurship by undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. The Daily Illini recently recognized the University of Illinois for its many resources offered to aid in entrepreneurship.

First, the University of Illinois Research Park has partnered with the National Science Foundation to put on the program, Accelerating Women And underRepresented Entrepreneurs. This program gives grants to groups of female and underrepresented entrepreneurs.

The Technology Entrepreneurship Center at UIUC also allows students and faculty to have the skills, resources, and experience necessary to become entrepreneurs. TEC also provides a workshop in California where 25 students are sent to meet with alumni who have founded or work in startups. SocialFuse is another event made for those who already have entrepreneurship ideas and are in search of teammates or those just wanting to listen to new ideas.

Another great resource offered at the University of Illinois is Cozad, a yearly competition for entrepreneurs allowing students to compete against each other for funding for their ideas. Many students continue on to create their own companies based on their ideas from Cozad. Cozad is open to the public, but at least 33 percent of team members must come from the University of Illinois.
