Projects will be forward thinking and at the edge of Caterpillar’s business model. The lab is vibrant, cross-disciplinary work environment designed to stimulate innovation
and creative problem solving.
 
As an Analytics Part-Time Student Intern, you will be immersed in our business data as well as introduced to analytics tools and techniques, enabling you to provide insights that drive business decisions. Some of the projects may involve research in:
  • Supply Chain optimization.
  • Video Analytics.
  • Job site productivity software.
  • Application of new devices, sensors, and metrics.
  • Integration of wearables product data or environmental data.
  • Customer Loyalty modeling (a.k.a. Amazon Prime experience).
**Note:  This position includes the expectation that the candidate will work part time hours during the school year with the potential to work full time during the summer. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work daily, on-site at our Champaign, Illinois facility. 
 
Basic Qualifications
  • Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business (various), Linguistics, Economics, Information Science, Actuarial Science, Applied Statistics, Business Analytics, Business Intelligence; Analytics, Engineering (various), Computer Science, Economics, Informatics, Information Systems Management, Marketing Analytics, Mathematics, MBA with Technical Undergrad, Operations Research, Predictive Analytics, Quantitative; Computational Finance, Quantitative Finance, Statistics, or equivalent.
  • Applicants need to be currently enrolled in a four-year, accredited institution.
  • Applicants must a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 scale (no rounding).
  • Candidate must be able to provide their own laptop for day to day work.

We’re growing quickly and looking for a Summer Intern to build out the knowledge base of our high-achieving and fast-moving employees. In this role you will be responsible for supporting multiple teams by researching and creating learning resources around agricultural data and information. Additionally, you may identify, research, and develop solutions for employee knowledge and skills gaps. You’ll work with the Learning & Development manager, while collaborating with other managers, to gather data, design materials and install them on an online learning platform. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, positive, creative, and performance-driven self-starter who can work independently.

This internship will allow you to fine-tune and develop your videography and photography skills in a professional environment. Interns will collaborate and coordinate with Research Park leadership and the EnterpriseWorks intern team. 
 
This position will begin mid Spring 2019 at a minimum of 10 hours per week for training and continue into Summer 2019 at 40 hours per week. 
 
What You’ll Do 
The Research Park hosts over 200 events annually and as a Multimedia Intern, you will be responsible for capturing professional quality photos and videos of our in-house events, as well as editing and recapping them to promote Research Park and EnterpriseWorks. You will also be assigned projects (promotional videos/photoshoots, etc) for start-ups in the EnterpriseWorks incubator. You and a team of interns will meet with the client to discuss the project timeline and expectations. You will be responsible for determining techniques to utilize for completion of the project. A storytelling mindset would be valuable for an intern in this position to use as a frame of reference when editing footage. It is important to coordinate effectively with EnterpriseWorks staff and clients to execute all projects to their highest potential. 
 
Requirements 
  • Applicants must be available to work 10-20 hrs/wk during Spring 2019 and 40 hrs/wk during Summer 2019
  • At the time of employment, you must be a full-time enrolled student at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign 
  • Graduation date must be December 2019 or after 
  • Ability to maintain clear communications with management on project status 
  • Strong photography and videography skills 
  • Strong proficiency with video editing software, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, etc.) 
  • Experience using a DSLR camera and camcorder 
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to quickly solve new design problems 
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and balance multiple projects 
  • Ability to work on short deadlines 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel 
Nice to Have: 
  • Ability to work in presentation software such as PowerPoint 
  • Experience with recording, editing videos for RSO’s/ class project

EarthSense One of 8 Ag Tech Start-ups Worth Watching in 2019

EarthSense, a company that develops ultra-compact autonomous robots for crop breeders, agronomists, and growers, has been featured in Successful Farming’s 8 Ag Tech start-ups worth watching in 2019.

The company was founded by University of Illinois entrepreneurs, Chinmay Soman and Girish Chowdhary.  

Their headlining agricultural robot, TerraSentia, provides field phenotyping from the ground level up. The creation of TerraSentia was inspired by the recognition of the fact that most of the important events on a field start under the canopy. 

The start-up sold out of its 2018 Early Adopter Program, where they sold 25 robots. 

In the feature, Soman talks about the three key problems that EarthSense aims to tackle, which include promoting the creation of the more sustainable next generation crop varieties and resolving issues posed by herbicide-resistant weeds with the use of robots performing mechanical weeding.
