Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full product lifecycle from conception, requirements definition, through to launch.

Requirements

While the programming languages we use depend upon the specific domain requirements of each assignment, most of our engineers use languages such as Java, C++, Perl, Python, and Pig, an SQL-capable scripting language.

Position Description – Part-Time Internship Position:

The Research Development Engineer will gather data remotely from wireless sensors and display data in the graphical form as well as develop a decision making engine in the circuit design which can take action to a stimulus using different threshold for different sensor type

Supported by Grainger’s engineering team, the Computer Research Engineer will design and build a functional prototype that will be used as the basis for further research in the digitization of physical systems, including the real-time analysis of system performance. Successful execution of the project can lead to additional projects spanning a broader set of industrial products.

This position will work in Grainger’s Innovation Lab in the UIUC Research Park. The duration of this phase 1 research work is approximately 8 weeks during the fall semester 2014 with opportunities for continued research work into phase 2 in spring semester 2015.

Tasks:

  • Develop circuit and logic design for wireless module, evaluation board for sensor network.
  • Develop WIFI and sensor module evaluation board
  • Develop logic using 802.11(WLAN), 802.15 (WPAN) standard for receiving and transmitting data.
  • Test-fix hardware and PCB
  • Develop, debug and testing WIFI and Bluetooth Co-existence with Cellular performance.
  • Visually showing the way patterns
  • Perform chip architecture, RTL design.
  • Test bench and verification of the design

Position Requirements:

  • Active enrollment in Master’s program.
  • Should be creative, innovative, independent, and self-motivated to bring a hardware concept to reality
  • Hardware assembly language
  • Should be able to do program a FPGA – CPLD using HDL
  • Experience with View Logic, or CAD and other circuit board design.
  • Experience in Circuit and Logic Design, simulated logic design.
  • Performed Hardware design verification test, measured signal integrity on boards.
  • Created register scripts to initialize Application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) where diagnostics software was not available.
  • Experience with wireless sensor networks, and wireless communication protocols.

Supported by Grainger’s engineering team, the Computer Research Engineer will design and build a functional prototype that will be used as the basis for further research in the digitization of physical systems, including the real-time analysis of system performance. Successful execution of the project can lead to additional projects spanning a broader set of industrial products. The duration of this phase 1 research work is approximately 8 weeks during the fall semester 2014 with opportunities for continued research work into phase 2 in spring semester 2015.

This position will be based in Grainger’s Research Center in the UIUC Research Park.

Requirements:

  • Actively enrolled towards Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or PHD in the same field.
  • Experience with Linux operating systems and/or RTOS.
  • Experience in Java and embedded C/C++ programming.
  • Understanding of modern network architecture (e.g.SOA, REST), protocols (UDP, TCP/IP4/IP6) and communication frameworks (e.g. XMPP, MQTT).
  • Experience with wireless sensor networks, and wireless communication protocols.

Position Description

The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include:

·         Authoring scientific software modules to support drug discovery research activities

·         Authoring RESTful web service APIs to pull, modulate, and integrate data

·         Updating existing software to enhance usability, speed, and/or functionality

·         Testing and analyzing new and existing software to enhance usability

Qualifications: 

·         Must be registered as a full-time student

·         Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis

·         Undergraduate and Graduate students

·         Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent

·         Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship

·         10 - 15 hours/week during the academic year

·         35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word

·         Creative individual passionate about good design and great user experiences

·         Ability to design and deliver clean and usable user interface prototypes for desktop, tablet and phone experiences

·         Basic familiarity with software testing methodologies and appreciation for usability best practices

·         Classroom experience and continuing interest in one or more of the following domains: Visualization (including D3.js); Scientific Computing/Advanced Data Mining; Literature Mining and Inference; Computational Biology/Bioinformatics 

Preferred Technical Skills:

POSITION

SpectroClick seeks a PARTNER SOFTWARE ENGINEER to

  • develop our core spectrometry technology.
  • prepare back end/web/database software and video to instruct users in employing the instruments and interpreting the results.
  • supervise student interns responsible for our website and small programming projects.
  • originate corporate strategies, becoming co-leader.
  • keep SpectroClick at the state of the art in mobile, middleware, and back end computing.

The PARTNER SOFTWARE ENGINEER must be employable in the United States.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science; Masters degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with such common numerical methods as regression, Fourier transform, parametric nonlinear fitting, and parallel processing.
  • Completed a college level course in Quantitative Chemical Analysis at the college level – OR –
  • A more advanced course in analytical chemistry – OR –
  • Equivalent professional experience.
  • Has written at least one program that runs on a cellular telephone (iOS or Android or Windows) that accesses a remote database with secure login.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
  • Desire to work in a start-up environment for a small company.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in scientific or instrumentation programming.
  • Course in numerical analysis OR professional experience at a comparable level.
  • Experience with RAD environments such as Embarcadero Delphi XE5, or willingness to translate Delphi code into C++, Java, or an equally modern, multi-platform language. 
  • Familiarity with XML.  Position will involve work with the XML extension AnIML, the Analytical Instrument Markup Language.
  • Esthetic sense for development of attractive computer/human interfaces.
