Phi Optics Recognized for Outstanding Technology by Central Illinois Business

Phi Optics was featured in the Central Illinois Business Magazine for their innovation and technology that could affect research into prostate and breast cancer.  Their system, CellVista Q1000, enables scientists to get images of cells without killing them in the process which allows users to get a better feel for how cancer cells multiply and grow. The CellVista Q1000 was unveiled at the BiOS 2014 biomedical optics conference in San Francisco.

Phi Optics moved into the EnterpriseWorks Incubator in 2012. In 2013, they received a $150K grant for SBIR Phase I from the National Science Foundation to build a commercial prototype. In June of 2013, they were granted seed funding of $250K from Serra Ventures, Illinois Ventures and Newport Holdings.

Position Description

The R&D IT department at AbbVie is seeking a student to work part-time in our Research Park facility to provide user-centered design solutions for websites and applications. This position will work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to understand business requirements, user needs and technical constraints. The ideal candidate will be studying design, communications, information science, HCI, psychology or related field and have a genuine interest in the end user.

Responsibilities

  • Translate requirements into simple, intuitive user interfaces
  • Create site maps, user scenarios and navigation flows
  • Perform rapid prototyping, low- to high-fidelity
  • Conduct usability testing and user research activities

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of UX best practices

Position Description

The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include:

  • Working as part of the Technology Consulting Services team you will be trained in SharePoint as well other Collaboration technologies, to be able to gather functional requirements using standard FRS templates. 
  • Develop out of the box solutions to meet the requirements, using tools and templates to manage assignment schedule, as well as be involved in testing and later transitioning the support of the solution to the respective IT or business leads.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be registered as a full-time student
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • 12 - 15 hours/week during the academic year
  • 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Junior or Senior in an Information Systems, Computer Sciences degree or similar degree
    • Has already or is planning to take Systems Analysis or Systems Design course as part of the degree program
  • Past experience working in a customer services role (i.e. Student or Faculty Computing labs)
  • Fluent in verbal and written communications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Creative problem solver with ability to understand larger picture but who will focus on details

Preferred Skills: 

  • Completed Project Management coursework

John Deere’s Global IT team is seeking to fill two immediate needs at our John Deere Technology Innovation Center, located at the UIUC Research Park campus.  The current indirect hire positions, Student Researchers, will focus on areas such as Data Analysis, Imagery Analysis, and Statistical analysis.
These positions require working part-time (15-20 hours/week) during the spring semester and full-time over the summer.  All work will be performed at John Deere’s office in the Research Park at UIUC.  Compensation is competitive and based on number of years of post-secondary education completed and experience.
 
Duties for focus areas are: 
•       Programmer: Parallel and Distributed Computing Systems, big data platforms, any programming experience in Java, C++, Python.
•       Data Analyst: Analyzing data and information to build/improve business processes, practical and theoretical understanding of statistics and machine-learning technologies
•       Imagery Analyst: Experience in processing large images, some programming experience, Experience with a database query language such as SQL
 
Basic Qualifications:
We need excellent communicators, who thrive on solving problems and working in a team environment.  Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Geography, Earth Science, or Statistics; others may qualify.  Ideally you will be pursuing a Masters or PhD. In addition we require:
•       Understanding of data structures, database and data management.

About the Position

We are looking for experienced software engineers to join our growing Applications team, responsible for all of the client-facing components here at Turn. You should be motivated by leading and evangelizing new software technologies, providing technical mentorship to junior engineers, designing and implementing high performance multi-tiered web-based enterprise applications that are used to manage hundreds of millions of dollars in digital marketing spend around the globe.

The Applications team works closely with the Product Management and User Experience teams to jointly design our products. Our work process is a nice blend of agile and design-oriented development which puts the customer experience first and foremost.  You may deal with projects such as optimizing user experience page load latency perception, or complex data visualization on large amount of data.

We are mostly full stack developers with exposure to everything – back-end, front-end, and everything in between. Some projects may involve more front-end development using cutting-edge JavaScript frameworks; others will involve working on backend infrastructure APIs that handles the majority of the business and workflow logic, interact with our various data stores, aggregate and correlate the data accordingly. CHAMPAIGN, IL March 3, 2015 -- The annual Innovation Celebration was held on Tuesday in Champaign. Three Research Park companies came away with some hardware and a lot of pride. Cathy Singer, site manager at Yahoo!, won the Entrepreneurial Excellence Management Award; Agrible, of the EnterpriseWorks incubator, won the New Venture Award; and Rithmio, also of the EnterpriseWorks incubator, won the Student Startup Award.
