Tech Industry booming in Champaign-Urbana

$

The tech industry in Champaign-Urban has been growing at a rapid pace, creating new opportunities for students seeking a position in the field.

Writes The Daily Illini: "Research Park provides students with both full-time and part-time positions in technology-based businesses, such as Abbott Laboratories, Grainger and Yahoo, etc."

The Daily Illini spoke to Laura Bleill, associate director of Research Park, who emphasized that many rewarding tech-related job openings in Champaign can be overlooked, despite the high demand for University graduates.

“I think the Midwest is a viable, but for many students they don’t see that … look at the entire picture, there’s a lot more to consider," said Bleill. “It is no surprise that some of the best are coming from the University of Illinois,” said Bleill. “There’s a very high demand for tech talent these days, and we see that in the papers every single day.”

Blogger Ali K. Afridi recently published an overview of the startup ecosystem within the University of Illinois, detailing the various resources available to entrepreneurs in the area. Afridi made refrence to the EnterpriseWorks accelerator, Research Park's startup incubator.

Writes Afridi; "Another resource at the implementation stage is the EnterpriseWorks incubator in Champaign. Generally utilized by companies commercializing research from the University or working on high-tech ventures, the incubator puts on many programs for student entrepreneurs as well."

The article also listed many additional organizations and academic programs that can provide valuable resources to local entrepreneurs. You can read Afridi's full blog post here
