A software engineer at Quicket will develop the cutting-edge, next-generation technologies for the handling of mission-critical and sensitive information for public safety agencies.
Candidate must be proficient in at least one or multiple areas of computer science and engineering, including information retrieval, data mining and data analysis, RDBMS, DBMS, Hadoop framework, device driver development, machine learning, advance image processing, distributed computing, networking, security and user interface design.
Qualified candidates must be able to enjoy and work well with a highly competitive and small team. Must be willing to switch teams and development modules as our fast-paced business grows and evolves. We need our engineers to be versatile and always eager to tackle new problems as we continue to push technology forward.


Courses Recommended: CS 241 or ECE 391 and an additional advance programming class such as CS 242 or CS 425 or ECE 429 or similar, and any database class such as CS 411 or CS 412 or CS 410. Full time candidates must have or are receiving their degree in CS or Computer Engineering no later than May 2015.

Qualified candidates are able to write and execute test plans using versioning systems to code test scripts. Able to manage a bug tracking database. The QA engineer must be customer-oriented, meaning the candidate must know how the product is designed and how the client uses our product in order to thoroughly evaluate and improve products.
Has strong communication skills and is not afraid to raise an alert when a bug is found or a system is compromised. Qualified candidates are able to efficiently communicate with development team and able to prepare reports for senior management.
Qualified candidates are able to use creativity to exploit and eliminate bugs. In other words, the QA engineer must be able to "see beyond the obvious".
 

Fluent in Python, Java, or C and must have experience in at least one scripting language. Hands on experience in writing backend tests and should be able to conduct routine server maintenance.

CU Farmers Now Selling Products to UI Research Park Members

CU Farmers, a multi-farm Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), is selling products to University of Illinois Research Park members through an online ordering system beginning on May 25th. The local farms involved in the CSA include Blue Moon Farm, Bane Family Meats and Prairie Fruits Farm & Creamery.
 
How it works:
 
1.      Visit www.cufarmers.com
2.      Click the “Shop” button in the menu bar between Friday morning at 8am and Monday evening at8am each week (the store is only visible during this time)
3.      Select the items and quantities you would like
4.      Click “Checkout” to review and submit your order
5.      Pick up your order in the Ameren building (2100 S Oak Street) at Research Park the following Wednesday from 4-6pm
6.      Pay for your order at pickup

Serra Venture CEO Tim Hoerr Feature in News Gazette's Wired In Column

CHAMPAIGN – Tim Hoerr, CEO of Serra Ventures, was spotlighted by the News Gazette as a ‘high tech difference maker.’ Serra Ventures is a Research Park tenant that offers professional advisory services in business strategy, capital formation, business development and organization development.

Hoerr chose to operate in Chambana because of the micro-urban community and a great environment for companies to incubate in.

iVenture Accelerator Returning to UIRP this Summer

The iVenture Accelerator, year-long program that gives student startups up to $10,000 in funding, was recently cited in ChicagoInno. The program will return to Research Park with 12 startups that will be provided with mentors, workspace, connections to venture capital firms in central Illinois, and a $2,500 stipend to offset expenses for the summer. These 12 startups were selected out of 44 applicants. 

The 12 startups include: Amber Agriculture, Atlas, Cast21, Cedar Technologies, ExoWear, Fraicher, GroupScale, Mesh++, misudesign+, The Exclusive Companion Series, Therapalz, and Tweetsense. 

EnterpriseWorks startups to be featured at Illinois Entrepreneur Showcase

CHAMPAIGN – Three EnterpriseWorks startups will be amongst 10 companies that will pitch their products and ideas related to cyber security, big data, collaboration technologies and IoT.

Network Perception, AE Machines, and Embedor Technologies will be at the Illinois Entrepreneur Showcase: Innovation & Technology next Tuesday (June 14) in Chicago. The event, hosted by State of Illinois Chief Information Officer Hardik Bhatt in coordination with 1871, is meant to provide a forum for up-and-coming companies to pitch to an all-star panel of leaders in business and technology.

CHAMPAIGN – Lori Gold Patterson, the CEO of Pixo, will be honored this week as Parkland College’s Entrepreneur of the Year. Patterson serves as an EIR at Research Park - a role she believes is one of her favorites - a role where she can make an impact on future leaders.

As an EIR she notes that “one of the key pieces of advice I give to new business founders is to digest the advice they get from mentors and advisors, but also to challenge it as wholeheartedly as they would challenge anything else.”
