We are seeking a student intern with interest in automation, robotics, UX design, and/or web-development.  Additional experience or interest in the following is also positive but not necessary:

Most importantly, we are seeking an enthusiastic, independent learner and creative designer to work as a member of our team. The position is expected to start no sooner than June 2017 and no later than August 2017. 

Who we are: AE Machines is working to make automation accessible to a broad group of people and businesses.  The company was founded by two engineers, and we are looking to make key additions to our development team.  Our product is a web-based software platform that allows nontechnical users to set up simple automated systems. We are looking for engineers to scale up an initial proof-of-concept demo to an industrially-viable prototype in the space of small-batch manufacturing and collaborative robotics.

Our team: Our team consists of four employees, Amy, who is also a UIUC faculty member in the area of robotics, Eric, a CS and MBA grad, Craig, a physics PhD with years of experience, and Hunter, our UX designer and in-house artist. Typical tasks in our office:  Our office is located in the EnterpriseWorks Incubator at the University of Illinois Research Park.  The types of tasks going on in our office are:

— designing website frontend layout and workflow

— adding functionality to website by adding supported hardware and designing motion primitives

— adjusting CSS styling to accommodate new graphics layout

— designing website backend architecture and data structures

— brainstorming additional product features and strategizing on feature implementation

— writing use cases for the product

— creating presentation slides for upcoming pitches

— visiting factories and potential customers to assess needs and to integrate solutions

Forcepoint has an open position for a Senior Software Engineer to work in the Federal product development group.  The successful candidate will work with engineering teams to assess, prototype, develop, and integrate functional and security capabilities into new and existing products.  This position requires strong technical experience in software engineering, Linux/UNIX system development, firewall application development, operating systems and network security.
 
Essential Functions
  • Analyze system and security requirements to design and develop software components for new and existing products
  • Participate in requirements gathering, design discussions, and code review/audit
  • Research and evaluate technology and third party software capabilities for integration with existing company products
  • Produce and maintain engineering artifacts such as architecture and design document, test procedures, installation and user guides 
 
Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical discipline 
  • Minimum 8 years professional experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Linux/UNIX software development
  • Strong programming experience in C/C++ and another programming language such as Java, Python, or Lua
  • Experience with firewall architecture and design, and implementation knowledge of components such as network packet filter, application proxy, firewall policy engine, and OS lockdown and security hardening.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with and developing on RHEL 6/7 or other UNIX platforms  
  • Understanding of operating systems and network security concepts 
  • Experience working with common UNIX system internals and API (sockets, IPC mechanisms, multithreading)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex engineering problems
  • Familiarity with agile software development framework and tools (Jira, Confluence, SVN, Git)  
  • Good oral and written communications skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • US Citizenship required
 
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Experience building high assurance guard and other cross domain applications
  • Experience building systems and software using SELinux type enforcement
  • Good understanding of  Linux/UNIX kernel and OS architecture  
  • In-depth understanding of common networking and security protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, HTTP, Kerberos, IPSEC, TLS/SSL, Citrix ICA, RDP, PCoIP, SOAP/XML, PKI)

Electroninks Incorporated Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Electroninks Inc. has launched its new Kickstarter campaign today to raise money to create Circuit Scribe: DIY Electronic Kits. 

Electroninks Inc. was located in Research Park at EnterpriseWorks and graduated in 2014. Electroninks Inc. is committed to creating low-cost and highly effecient printed-electronics for STEAM education and Maker communities. They are a startup that began as a Kickstarter that was highly successful and are now an independant company that ships their products all over the world. Their mission for these DIY kits is to show people that electricity can be fun and engaging. They are now located in Austin, TX.

They have created DIY kits that incoprorate their paper-based electronics such as Circuit Scribe, a conductive ink pen that allows electricity to flow through the ink on the pages. These kits are a fun new way to use their products, and allows people to get creative, while also educating people about basic circuitry principles. 

The Kickstarter campaign is live now, and Electroninks Inc. is hoping to reach a goal of $95,000 in 41 days.

What you will do:

·      Collaborate with Director of People Ops to create and revamp existing processes to facilitate employee growth and happiness. ·      Take ownership of the current employee onboarding and offboarding experience company-wide. Continue to suggest and implement improvements as the company grows. Lead 90 min onboarding meeting in person or via video conference. Answer any questions regarding the company, benefits, policies or software.  Work with Sequoia (our PEO) to get employees the answers they need. Complete I-9 verifications and immigration tasks if required.  Introduce new employees to the team! You are the welcome committee.

·      Set up new team with internal software systems (Gmail, LastPass) and purchase necessary new equipment to ensure workspace is ready for their first day in Champaign. Work to ensure smooth departure and removal of employee from all software systems.

·      Ongoing People Op’s support. Including scheduling exit interviews, verifying employment, ensuring proper maintenance and organization of People Ops folder in Google Drive.  Draft and send out offer letters via Docusign. Attention to detail is key!

·      You'll wear many hats and work with every department within the company. You will help our People Operations team define and grow our company culture while ensuring that the Champaign office runs smoothly: your support and coordination will keep the team moving forward.

·      Coordinate an office move in December 2017, spearhead day to day office administration, pick up food weekly for team lunches, plan fun outings.  Basically, you are in charge of making Granular in Champaign a great place to work!

·      Work with recruiting to make sure every candidate has a great experience when they visit Granular.

·      Plan local and regional events for co-workers and customers! Estimate 15 annually.

 

Your Skillset

·      BS/BA and 3-5 years of relevant work experience as a People Ops generalist, HR Associate or related field.

·      A can-do attitude is key: we’re looking for someone with a high attention to detail, who is accountable, organized, and follows through.

AARP's Rishabh Anand Featured in The News-Gazette

Rishabh Anand, rising sophomore in electrical engineering, discussed his vision to bring the Internet of Things to the Champaign-Urbana community in this week’s Wired In column.

Rishabh’s drive for technological innovation has led him to a summer internship at AARP’s Tech Nest as a Voice Enabled Technology Development Intern, located in Research Park. He has also participated in the the Cozad New Venture Competition, as well as started his own registered student organization called the Illini Internet of Things Association. Rishabh explains that through these initiatives, “He hopes to make Champaign-Urbana a Smart City.”

The Student Will Be Responsible For:

• Working and communicating with the Regulatory Affairs team to complete assessments related to ingredient compliance

• Populating an existing database with ingredient information

• Managing and improving database to increase user productivity

Role Responsibilities 

  • Work with researchers and implement machine learning and computer vision algorithms to solve real-world problems

  • Nuanced understanding of all phases of machine-learning development

 Qualifications
