Full-Time Software & Embedded Control System Engineer Position

Starfire Industries LLC is a leading manufacturer of the IMPULSETM pulsed power modules for thin-film deposition systems and nGenTM compact particle accelerators for neutron generation.  We are looking for an experienced engineer with a background in microcontrollers and software programming for desktop and embedded control systems to join our team.

Starfire has a fast-paced, small-company atmosphere with an opportunity to work with an incredible team, contribute to multiple products in development/production and make an impact.  We are located in Champaign, IL on the Research Park at the University of Illinois.  We offer a flexible work environment with competitive salary and bonus.

  • Job description
  • Work on desktop and embedded control systems for Starfire’s industry leading neutron generators, plasma sources, and power supplies
  • Assist engineering teams on communications, protocols and external controls
  • Develop Windows desktop applications to be delivered to our customers
  • Develop applications to support other business areas
  • Required
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related fields or A.A.S. in Electronics or Electronics Control Systems (or similar)
  • Minimum of 6+ years’ post-college work experience
  • Experience in:
  • C# / .NET
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2013+
  • Development of Windows desktop applications
  • WPF or Windows Forms
  • and/or Experience in:
  • Embedded programming, programming of microcontrollers
  • Control systems
  • Communications protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN, RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, EtherCAT, etc.
  • Desired
  • Experience in:
  • .NET Micro Framework
  • C / C++
  • Version control systems (Git, Mercurial, Subversion, CVS, etc.)
  • Data acquisition, processing, and display
  • UI design
  • Installation frameworks such as Windows Installer (MSI), InstallShield
  • VBA / Microsoft Office macros
  • MSDOS or BASH scripting
  • Circuit modeling, design, layout, and testing
  • IT skills including administration of Windows Server, Active Directory environments, Cisco routers, and general troubleshooting
  • Nuclear Engineering, plasmas, or power supplies
  • Comfortable in a laboratory environment
