R&D Position Description – Full-time Summer Internship Position:
Our R&D Engineers will design and build functional prototypes that will be tested with users, to demonstrate their practicality both internally and at customer facilities. These prototypes will help collect and digitize surrounding data in order to give customers valuable feedback through real-time analysis and necessary visualizations to accurately reflect their system performance. All prototypes go through a process of continuous iteration until they are proven to be technically feasible, a viable business solution, and ready for commercialization.
Tasks
Work with industrial equipment such as motors and tools to monitor and track certain, critical parameters
Work with various Grainger business units and suppliers to create products which meet different business needs
Engage with customers and install products at customer sites
Utilize customer feedback and human centered design principles to build and improve products
Work with Software and Mechanical Engineers to collaborate on products and systems
Help computer engineers and software developers integrate data collected on the hardware end into a customer-friendly visual platform
Choose appropriate controllers and sensors for real-life applications that use various machinery, in order to effectively analyze their operating conditions
Work with different wireless technologies to build communication networks for devices using Bluetooth (LE), ZigBees, Wi-Fi, 6LoWPAN, RFID, LTE, mesh networks, etc.
Build cutting-edge remote sensing and monitoring systems with integrated machine learning and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication
Understand different failure conditions to build metrics and ecosystem around it to mitigate the issues automatically
Requirements:
The R&D Electrical Engineer should demonstrate strong expertise in using and developing embedded systems for data acquisition, signal processing, and device control/automation. This would be fulfilled by utilizing appropriate sensors in order for the information collected to be effectively analyzed, displayed, and made intuitive for our customers.
