Title: Part Time Student - Innovation Developer - Champaign, IL - 12565

Your Responsibilities

The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff, and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule. In this position you will work with the Customer & Product Support IT organization responsible for systems and software that John Deere customers and dealers use to acquire, service, and support our products and machines.  You will assist in the following:

  • Investigate, evaluate, and develop new and emerging technologies in areas like mobile, cloud, enterprise search, security, data analytics and Big Data
  • Evaluate and implement open source and/or commercial software solutions
  • Prove out new and innovated features adding differentiation in our solutions

What It Takes

We need excellent communicators, who thrive on solving problems and working in a team environment.  Ideally, you will be pursuing a degree in Information Technology or Computer Science; others may qualify.  In addition, we require:

  • Must be registered as a full-time student at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Graduation date of May 2017 or later 
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above 
  • 16 - 20 hours/week during the academic year
  • 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio and Word

A strong candidate will also have:

  • Experience using Java and/or C++
  • Knowledge of web application infrastructure software concepts
  • Experience installing and using software
  • Experience with modern front-end development including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and common libraries such as jQuery 
  • Passion for learning new technologies
  • Strong interest in software programming
