WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?
Professional level training in an insurance organization and exposure to State Farm culture and opportunities
Must be a college student
WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION?
Bi-lingual (in positions where there is a need)
Completes training on workstations and job/department specific applications
Demonstrates effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers
Demonstrates the ability to effectively analyze and evaluate professional level work within the assigned department
Work on special projects as assigned by the supervisor
Ability to work in a team environment

Modeling & Analytics Graduate Network
State Farm has developed a unique internship opportunity for graduate students at the
University of Illinois, the Modeling and Analytics Graduate Network (MAGNet). MAGNet interns apply their statistical modeling and analytic skills to a wide variety of business problems faced by the State Farm organization.
Most MAGNet interns are in the Statistics Department graduate program, but graduate students in other highly quantitative disciplines may also be considered. While participating in the MAGNet program, students are evaluated and given consideration for full time post graduate employment at State Farm offices in Bloomington, Illinois, Atlanta, Georgia, or Champaign, Illinois.
Key Responsibilities:
MAGNet interns apply their predictive modeling and data analysis skills to a variety of business problems, in many different lines of business and departments (e.g., marketing, insurance, and banking) including:
Underwriting and Pricing Risk Modeling
Claims Automation Predictive Modeling
Sales / Growth Forecasting Econometric and Predictive Modeling
Data mining applications for Claims and Competitive Analysis
Evaluating new statistical methods and tools for potential use by State Farm modelers
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in an approved graduate program at the University of Illinois
Statistical modeling and/or data mining
Data analysis and experience with database tools
Computer programming (especially SAS and R)
Communication and presentation skills
Internship Duration: May 15, 2017 to August 4, 2017
Hours & Compensation
During the summer, MAGNet interns will work 38.75 hours per week.
Hourly wage is highly competitive and similar to a 50% assistantship. As with an assistantship, tuition costs are covered. Some State Farm benefits may also apply.
