Description:  AARP’s technology team is looking to hire 2 to 3 student interns to develop cutting edge machine intelligent algorithms in the highly competitive field of information security.  Students will work with top notch security experts from Washington DC attaining valuable insights into behavioral norms in order to develop solutions that preserve and protect our brand. 
 
Education level 
 
Seeking sophomore and juniors majoring in computer science, computer engineering or management information systems.  Additional areas of concentration include understanding and practical application of statistics, data mining/analysis, application design /architecture and systems infrastructure.
 
Desired skills
  • Must have a passion and interest for security
  • Knowledge and proficiency in an object oriented programming language (e.g. Java, C++)
  • Experience on a UNIX or Linux platform
  • Knowledge of distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, relational databases and optimization
  • Adept at handling ambiguous or undefined challenges through abstract thinking
  • Knowledgeable about security best practices
In addition, the candidate should have a working knowledge of security protocols, frameworks, social media APIs etc.  
 
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and will also demonstrate an affinity for: 
  • Effective communication – listening, verbal and written skill sets
  • Presentations – Ability to read ones audience
  • Collaboration – Approachable personality, but also able to draw others in to the work at hand
  • High degree of self-awareness – knowledge of ones strengths and weaknesses
