Common Ground Publishing is looking for a Marketing/Social Media Intern for Fall/Winter 2016. Located at the University of Illinois Research Park, we are an academic publishing company founded in 1984 that is committed to principals of access, participation, and equality. We hold 22 annual international and domestic conferences and publish 77 journal titles. Our traditional areas of strength include education, interdisciplinary humanities and social sciences, arts and design, and science in social context. We are at the leading edge of the investigations of the critical questions of our time. Our areas of innovation include new media, food and urban studies, aging, sustainability, and climate change.
Our 10-20 hour a week, unpaid internship gives students an opportunity to learn more about marketing and academic publishing. Interns would interact with multiple levels of the promotional process. Our internship is education-based with new lessons each week, allowing interns to apply what they’ve learned to a real-world workplace environment. All students with an interest in academic publishing are encouraged to apply.
The position is eligible for course credit at the University of Illinois; however, approval to enroll in a course to obtain credit is at the sole discretion of the course instructor(s) at the university.
Requirements
•The person in this position frequently communicates with staff and possibly with other academics and other publishing professionals who might have questions regarding submitting work, or submitted work.
•Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
•The person in this position needs to move about occasionally inside and outside the office to access file cabinets or other office related supplies.
•Constantly operates a computer or other office equipment.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Ability to focus simultaneously on short and long-term projects.
•Interest in marketing, communication, or social media applications
•Awareness of Google Analytics and/or other methods of tracking patterns of user interaction with websites and e-newsletters
•Experience with Excel
•Ability to organize and interpret data related to internet usage
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Ability to commit 10 hours a week to the program
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Engaging with the marketing process
•Interacting in weekly lessons
•Evaluating effectiveness of promotional activities and marketing campaigns
•Assisting with creation of newsletters and other promotional materials
•Assist with analysis of website traffic
•Other tasks as required by the site supervisor
