Dow AgroSciences seeks a student worker pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science. The successful candidate will work closely with scientists from the R&D Data Analysis group. Key job responsibilities will be the implementation and deployment of a simulation and optimization engine to provide decision making support to scientists and business leaders in optimizing the performance of one of our business processes. Candidate will be provided with a prototype of the engine in the beginning of the project. One of the main goals of the project will be to create a computationally efficient and scalable implementation of the prototype for large datasets. Concepts from optimization, statistics, data mining and related areas will be utilized in translating complex real-world questions into specific simulation and optimization scenarios involving large matrices and hundreds of parameters. These scenarios will be tested using the new system for decision making support. There will be several opportunities to enhance the new system by developing new modules and answer challenging real-world questions through this project.
Expert computer programming and implementation skills are required. Experience with HPC and databases is desired but not essential.
