Design & Test Engineer
Starfire Industries LLC has an immediate opening for a Design & Test Engineer to support core research and development projects. The successful candidate will have a solid laboratory background and work closely with our research engineering team. Strong documentation skills, ability to work under pressure, effectively communicate results and meet deadlines are a must. Experience in microelectronics and/or machining and fabrication is a plus.
Starfire is an industry-defining manufacturer of IMPULSETM pulsed power modules for thin-film deposition systems and nGenTM compact particle accelerators for neutron generation and imaging. We are a fast-paced, small-company atmosphere with an opportunity to work with an incredible team, contribute to multiple products in development/production and make an impact. Starfire is located in Champaign, IL on the Research Park at the University of Illinois, and recently expanded engineering and production space in 2016. As of May 2017, we have 34 employees.
Job Description
· Vacuum system setup, plasma diagnostics, test fixture design, measurement, and data analysis
· Prototype visualization, software and electrical implementation, system integration support
· Support research and development, including, but not limited to: new idea generation, process development, concept reduction to practice, and productization of innovations
· Contributing fabrication knowledge and experience team-wide
· Maintain adequate documentation and communication (oral, written, electronic)
· Other duties as assigned, including amendments for promotion and added responsibilities.
Required
· B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear, Plasma & Radiological Engineering or related fields
· Work experience
· Experience in:
o Data acquisition (e.g. LabVIEW or other)
o Microelectronics
o Comfortable working with/near radiation-producing equipment
o Proven ability to multitask (e.g. handle projects in both R&D prototyping environment and production facility)
o Excellent communications skills; Microsoft Office aptitude
Desired
· 2+ years’ post-college work experience
· Experience in:
o Microelectronics and signal processing
o Vacuum systems, electronics and hardware
o Plasmas, high-voltage and electrical safety
