The AbbVie Innovation Center is located in the Research Park at the University of Illinois and provides an opportunity for students and AbbVie’s Research and Development IT group to collaborate on projects to help advance our science.

Position Description:
The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include:
• Authoring scientific software modules to support drug discovery research activities
• Authoring RESTful web service APIs to pull, modulate, and integrate data
• Updating existing software to enhance usability, speed, and/or functionality
• Testing and analyzing new and existing software to enhance usability

Qualifications:
• Must be registered as a full-time student
• Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
• Undergraduate and Graduate students
• Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
• 10 - 15 hours/week during the academic year
• 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
• Creative individual passionate about good design and great user experiences
• Ability to design and deliver clean and usable user interface prototypes for desktop, tablet and phone experiences
• Basic familiarity with software testing methodologies and appreciation for usability best practices
• Classroom experience and continuing interest in one or more of the following domains: Software Development & Testing Cycle; Scientific Computing/Advanced Data Mining; Literature Mining and Inference; Computational Biology/Bioinformatics

Preferred Technical Skills:
• HTML/CSS/JavaScript /JSON
• Familiarity with Javascript libraries and Web UI Frameworks and desire to learn new ones
• Knowledge of SQL and relational database design

Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin as soon as possible over the spring semester with an option to continue into the Summer and Fall semesters.
