The AbbVie Innovation Center is located in the Research Park at the University of Illinois and provides an opportunity for students and AbbVie’s Research and Development IT group to collaborate on projects to help advance our science. 

Position Description

The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include:

  • Assist laboratory personnel in the use of high resolution microscopy imaging equipment and image analysis software tools
  • Work closely with AbbVie pathologists and data scientists to prepare high resolution microscopy images for cutting-edge quantitative analysis

Qualifications: 

  • Must be registered as a full-time student
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • 10 - 15 hours/week during the academic year
  • 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Able to maintain organization when handling large amounts of data and complex tasks
  • Comfortable learning new concepts and performing under limited supervision
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be able to use a computer for extended periods of time

Preferred Skills: 

  • Knowledge of pathology, identifying cells and structures in microscopy slide/images
  • Experience using image analysis applications such as Visiopharm, HALO, or FIJI

Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin as soon as possible over the fall semester 2019 with an option to continue through the spring, summer and 2020-2021 academic year.
