Position Description – Part-Time Internship Position:
The Research Development Engineer will gather data remotely from wireless sensors and display data in the graphical form as well as develop a decision making engine in the circuit design which can take action to a stimulus using different threshold for different sensor type
Supported by Grainger’s engineering team, the Computer Research Engineer will design and build a functional prototype that will be used as the basis for further research in the digitization of physical systems, including the real-time analysis of system performance. Successful execution of the project can lead to additional projects spanning a broader set of industrial products.
This position will work in Grainger’s Innovation Lab in the UIUC Research Park. The duration of this phase 1 research work is approximately 8 weeks during the fall semester 2014 with opportunities for continued research work into phase 2 in spring semester 2015.
Tasks:
- Develop circuit and logic design for wireless module, evaluation board for sensor network.
- Develop WIFI and sensor module evaluation board
- Develop logic using 802.11(WLAN), 802.15 (WPAN) standard for receiving and transmitting data.
- Test-fix hardware and PCB
- Develop, debug and testing WIFI and Bluetooth Co-existence with Cellular performance.
- Visually showing the way patterns
- Perform chip architecture, RTL design.
- Test bench and verification of the design
Position Requirements:
- Active enrollment in Master’s program.
- Should be creative, innovative, independent, and self-motivated to bring a hardware concept to reality
- Hardware assembly language
- Should be able to do program a FPGA – CPLD using HDL
- Experience with View Logic, or CAD and other circuit board design.
- Experience in Circuit and Logic Design, simulated logic design.
- Performed Hardware design verification test, measured signal integrity on boards.
- Created register scripts to initialize Application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) where diagnostics software was not available.
- Experience with wireless sensor networks, and wireless communication protocols.
- Experience with a wide variety of lab instrumentation including logic analyzers, high speed electrical oscilloscopes, high speed optical oscilloscope and other wireless signal measuring devices.
