Position Summary:
Abbott Nutrition is seeking a University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) student to carry out a literature review of metabolomics for nutritional applications. Metabolomics is a new field of analytical biology that stands to revolutionize clinical diagnostics and drug discovery.
A Metabolomics Intern will be responsible for:
· Drafting a white paper on the application of metabolomics in nutrition
· Effectively communicating findings and progress to scientific mentor on a regular basis
· Drafting a review article for submission to a peer-reviewed journal around the topic of metabolomics and nutrition
Qualifications:
· Must be a current UIUC student
· Enrolled as a Ph.D. student in biological sciences, biophysics, or related field; strong interest in metabolomics, nutrition and/or physiology is preferred
· Experience with manuscript preparation
· Authorship on at least one peer-reviewed manuscript preferred
· Highly skilled with Microsoft Word and a citation database, e.g. RefMan
· Strong data synthesis and integration acumen
· Works independently, responds well to feedback and able to meet deadlines
· Excellent verbal/written English language skills
What We Offer to Our Student Employees:
· Part-time, paid position at the UIUC Research Park Abbott office
· Hourly wage commensurate with year in school
· 10-20 hours/week (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
· Flexible work schedule, Monday-Saturday
Position Start Date:
· Position to begin summer semester 2015 and funded through fall semester 2015
