Summer 2015 Startup Competitions

Is your startup ready for the big time? If so, we encourage you to enter your business in one or more of the upcoming startup competitions listed below. Participating in a startup competition is not only a great way to boost your company's public profile, but it is also an opportunity to learn new strategies to succeed in your market. 

Saint-Gobain NOVA Innovation Competition – Washington, DC
  • NOVA External Venturing, the corporate venturing arm of the Saint-Gobain Group, through the company Saint-Gobain Ceramics and Plastics Inc. announces the Fifth Edition of the Saint-Gobain NOVA Innovation Competition. Three to four start-up companies whose projects provide the most innovative solutions for building and construction products, advanced materials, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability will receive cash prizes and consideration for partnerships with the Saint-Gobain Group. The cash prizes by jury selection are: $50,000 (first place), $25,000 (second place) and $15,000 (third place). In addition to these prizes, a special “Saint-Gobain Community” Award ($10,000 cash prize) will be handed to one of the 8 finalists after an internal voting campaign among the employees of the Saint-Gobain Group.

BMEidea 
  • Since 2005, the BMEidea competition has recognized innovative biomedical engineering design with high commercial potential and social impact. The competition is open to both graduate and undergraduate students (undergraduate-only teams may also enter BMEStart).Strong BMEidea submissions define a problem and demonstrate the development of a device, product, or technology designed to solve it. Examples include but are not limited to: surgical devices, home health care devices, diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventative applications, rehabilitative and assistive technologies, or other innovations that will have a substantial impact on clinical care and patient outcomes.

accelerate>>MICHIGAN – Detroit, MI
  • The competition fuels innovation-based business growth by showcasing the best and brightest new business concepts to potential investors to help foster their development within Michigan. The competition targets entrepreneurs with mid to-late seed-stage businesses with the potential to have an immediate and positive impact on Michigan’s economy, as well as student concepts with longer-term business viability.

SXSW Accelerator – Austin, TX
  • Description from 2015 competition: The seventh annual SXSW Accelerator startup competition presented by Oracle took place atSXSW Startup Village on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15. A live audience, as well as a panel of expert judges discovered advancements in various sectors of emerging technology. The best part was product demonstrations by the most ambitious talents in the world with the most creative new ideas to change it.

  • Presented to the company or individual who actively and consistently supports the growth of the Illinois technology industry through leadership and/or collaboration that brings the spotlight to the community. Judging & Award Criteria: Forward looking contribution to the community (advising, mentoring, aggregating, collaborating, helping, promoting), visible and evangelical long-term commitment and enthusiasm about the potential of Illinois as a technology hub
