The Dow Chemical Company's Research and Development, Information Research organization has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a high performance computing intern.
The Information Research (IR) group provides information technology and information management-based solutions to drive value and accelerate discovery in the R&D organizations throughout Dow. Information Research is focused on making Dow Research and Development the best at using information technology for a competitive advantage.
As a member of our HPC Expertise Center, you will work with a global team of system administrators, programmers, application support experts, and R&D partners in the design, implementation, ongoing operations and user support for high-end computing systems. Core responsibilities will include system administration, software maintenance, systems monitoring and troubleshooting for advanced systems and related infrastructure, and developer operations/system automation tasks. You will have the opportunity to work with a range of systems and a technology such as compute clusters, file systems, Network Information Service (NIS), high-speed interconnects, and database servers. You will be encouraged to stay abreast of market trends and to participate in architecting next generation HPC Infrastructure. You will also provide user support, documentation and consulting to help ensure the effective use of HPC resources by R&D partners.

System Administrator Responsibilities:
· Manage User Accounts
· Backup Procedures
· System Installation in a cluster and standalone environment
· Software Installs and Integration into Infrastructure
· Upgrades and patches of Operating Systems and Applications
· Systems Automation
· Configuration of Samba (Windows interoperability suite) Shares
Seeking candidates with the any of the following:
· CS or CE Major
· Scripting expertise (BASH, Python, etc)
· Knowledge of Linux File Permissions
· Knowledge of NIS and NFS
· Understand the concept of queuing and scheduling on a cluster
· Understand the concept of parallel versus serial computing
· Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills
· System Integration of High Performance Computing Technical Workflows
