Position Summary    

Abbott Molecular (AM) is seeking a student to support a key Global Marketing initiative to identify external funding sources (governmental and non-governmental) for development-stage, strategic molecular diagnostics products in infectious disease or oncology testing, especially for developing world markets.  The successful candidate will 1) devise a search strategy to find opportunities for research funding, 2) automate the distribution of information using one or several IT applications, and 3) automate updates and filters. The work will be done in partnership with AM managers and the Library Information Resource (LIR) staff.        

Additional details include:

  • Part-time, paid position at the Abbott office in the UIUC Research Park
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • 10-20 hours/week (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Position to begin as soon as possible
  • Must be committed through the end of Fall Semester 2014, including Summer Semesters

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify and search all available sources, such as government databases and private foundations
  • Communicate with AM managers on a consistent basis to identify relevant information and refine searches
  • Compile information into a comprehensive document or database for distribution to relevant team members
  • Develop IT applications to automate the distribution, updating, and filtering of information

 

Qualifications

  • Must be a current UIUC student
  • BA, BS, or MS in information technology, library science, or related field
  • Experience in searching, databases, and communication
  • Grant application experience desirable but not required
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel)
  • Able to work independently and respond well to feedback
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
  • Well organized and attentive to detail
