Position Summary    

Abbott Diagnostics Division (ADD) is seeking a student to support an R&D initiative to conduct a comprehensive literature search to identify internal and external metrics and targets that are needed to drive the behaviors required to improve productivity and business success in R&D.

Additional details include:

  • Part-time, paid position at the UIUC Research Park
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • 10-20 hours/week (exceptions made on a case-by-case basis)
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Position to begin as soon as possible and funded through August 2014
  • Must be committed through Summer

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with staff members in ADD’s Research organization to conduct comprehensive literature searches and obtain copies of published research
  • Network with Abbott personnel to identify metrics that are utilized across Abbott divisions and identify how those organizations set metrics and targets to drive desired behaviors
  • Create a database (spreadsheet) summarizing key features of each research study
  • Create an electronic file repository for published research that focuses on the use of metrics scorecards and dashboards to drive performance across industries, with emphasis in healthcare
  • Compose a technical review paper based on information from literature searches and Abbott networking
  • Communicate findings and progress to scientific mentor on a regular basis
  • Communicate findings to broad R&D audience via an abbreviated executive summary and slide presentation

 

Qualifications

  • Must be a current UIUC student
  • BA or BS (Senior level), or MS in life sciences, bioengineering, or related field
  • Experience in systematic and comprehensive literature searching preferred
  • Ability to read and synthesize large amounts of technical information
  • Good technical writing skills are critical
  • Excellent verbal/written English language skills
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word
  • Able to work independently and respond well to feedback
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to meet deadlines
