LifeFoundry is a startup in the University of Illinois Research Park that uses fully automated synthetic biology to engineer organisms for the production of value-added chemicals. Using robotic and advanced algorithms we are taking biotechnology R&D to a whole new level.
If you are excited to join us in the effort to revolutionize biotechnology research and have molecular and microbiology research experience, LifeFoundry Research Fellow position is for you. You will work closely with the automation engineers and other research scientists in a multidisciplinary environment on the development of new methods, high-throughput biomanufacturing processes, analytical assays, and novel functional biosystems. We would love to have you on board for this exciting journey!
Major duties and responsibilities include:
- Performing DNA manipulations, cell cultures, molecular and chemical analysis.
- Literature survey and biosystems design
- Data acquisition, processing, and analysis
- Developing novel high-throughput molecular and microbial protocols.
- Writing proposals, reports and recording experimental procedures
Requirements:
- MS degree or above in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering or related fields
- >3 years of research experience, preferably in synthetic biology, molecular biology, or metabolic engineering
- >3 years of wet lab experience. Proficient in basic DNA, protein, and microbial operations
- Strong communication and teamwork skills. Experience in managing and training other scientists is a plus
- Excited to join a fast-paced interdisciplinary team working on a variety of challenging projects
- Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision and able to solve problems with methodical and critical thinking
