The AbbVie Innovation Center is located in the Research Park at the University of Illinois and provides an opportunity for students and AbbVie’s Research and Development IT group to collaborate on projects to help advance our science. 

Position Description

The Part-Time Student Program at the AbbVie Innovation Center, located in the Research Park, is designed to augment AbbVie’s regular staff, and is for students who are able to work in parallel to their school schedule. Major duties include:

  • Working with the Dev-Ops team on day to day operations for the West Coast
  • Developing automation playbooks for application deployment.
  • Working with the team to troubleshoot issues.
  • Learn how to work on production systems around users’ schedules
  • Learn security best practices for Linux servers.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be registered as a full-time student
  • Must be able to commute to the work location on a daily basis
  • Undergraduate and Graduate students
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
  • Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without EVER requiring sponsorship
  • 10 - 15 hours/week during the academic year
  • 35 - 40 hours/week during the summer semester
  • Some experience of Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS)
  • Passion for the details
  • Ability to design and deliver work to a schedule.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Willingness to learn Ansible and Docker
  • Some Python/Bash skills
  • Familiarity with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Knowledge of code review and change management.
  • Passion for learning.

Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin as soon as possible over the spring semester 2019 with an option to continue through the summer and 2019-2020 academic year.
